Dantrolene Shortage

The Ontario Poison Centre (OPC) has been made aware that dantrolene stocks are approaching expiry and that there is a supply shortage until at least March 2026.  Ontario Poison Centre suggests that hospital pharmacies keep expired stock for use until new stock is available.

Dantrolene is an essential treatment for malignant hyperthermia crisis.  It is rarely also recommended as an adjunctive treatment for certain toxicologic emergencies. Consideration for use of dantrolene for indications other than malignant hypertension may be discussed in consultation with an OPC Toxicologist prior to use: 1-800-268-9017 (toll-free).
